Freshly Fallen Snow
Wash me and I will be clean. Cleanse me and I will be whiter than snow. – Psalm 51:7
Grace in the beauty of freshly fallen snow. Purest white clings to the trees, coating their limbs, covering the earth. The snow glistens under the blue sky, the brilliant sun. Undisturbed stillness. Utter peace.
God is good.
Then the reality of life steps in. Footprints mark their path- some gently, others trudging through the depths. Tires leave tracks and trample over the layers, creating a dirty, slushy, sloppy mess of this beauty, making a mess of our lives. Peace is disrupted. Hearts are marked by the impact of those who walk in and out of our worlds- some gently, lovingly, and graciously, while others stomp through carelessly and selfishly. Difficult circumstances wreak havoc as the purity of new life is once again stained by the filth of the old.
Yet God is good.
And in His goodness, at just the right time, He sends fresh snow. The snowflakes fall from the sky like grace upon grace. Purest white attaches itself to our lives and limbs, reminding us once again that we are coated and cleansed and covered by the perfect righteousness of Christ. When God the Father looks at us, He sees the beauty of Jesus. Our lives glisten as we reflect the brilliance of the Son. Peace is restored because God is faithful.
Purest white. Brightest joy. Richest grace. The beauty and grace of freshly fallen snow.
